SNAILS - we have been learning about snails this week, and today had a visit from two giant African land snails. They are only about a year old so still have lots of growing to do!!
Pirate party - 27th May 2016 - a fantastic pirate themed day with a party to finish the end of the half term
PIRATES!! This week our topic has been pirates. We have been making treasure maps, painting pictures and reading pirate stories. We are continuing with this next week, finishing next Friday with a pirate party (27th May). Children are invited to come to school dressed as a pirate and we will be putting up a food list.
Last week Willow had an art afternoon. A visitor from Exeter University helped us to mix 'warm' and 'cold' colours and we created some lovely pictures.
Our current topic is 'how things grow' and we have been looking at how plants grow, and naming parts of plants such as roots, leaves, stem and flowers. We have also been reading a book called 'Oliver's Vegetables' which has helped us to understand where vegetables come from. This week we have also walked around the school grounds looking for different plants and finding out their names.
One of the children in Willow class keeps snakes at home and brought in a complete skin for us to look at. It felt a bit papery and very light, we could even see where the eyes and mouth were!!
We have been continuing our work on Jack and the Beanstalk. Look at our giant and the beanstalk. We tried colour mixing with blue and yellow to make the different shades of green on the leaves.
We have had lovely spring sunshine this week and have been looking for signs of spring around the school. Look at the beautiful blossoms and buds we have found on the trees in our garden.
Welcome back to all of our children, we hope you had a lovely Easter holiday.
Now that we are in the summer term, we are going to have PE lessons each week, and will be changing into our PE kits. A letter has gone home with every child this week detailing what kit they will need. Children will need red or black shorts, a white t-shirt and plimsolls or trainers in a bag. Please ensure that EVERYTHING is named, including the bag. As you can appreciate, 24 children getting changed in the same room can result in clothes getting a bit mixed up sometimes, and if things are named they are much easier to sort out.
This week we have been exploring the story of Jack and the Beanstalk and lots of our activities have taken on this theme. We will continue this into next week.
As always if you have any questions please approach a member of the Foundation team and we will be happy to help.
Easter event - thankyou to those parents who attended our joint event with Park Pre-school yesterday. The children had lots of fun making Easter cards, baskets and bunting and taking part in an egg hunt, 'find the chick' game and 'find 5 signs of spring' challenge.

Have a safe and enjoyable Easter break and we will see you on Tuesday April 12th.

On Wednesday we had the Harvest assembly, where we stood up and sang the song we have been learning, 'Oats and Beans'.
We were also lucky enough to have some visitors come and see us all the way from Tanzania! Some children from Redhills Preschool also came to join us, and we made a big woolly mammoth collage together.
We have been very busy at school. We are learning the Golden Rules, so that we can make our classroom a happy and safe place.
The Golden Rules are:
1. We listen to each other.
2. We have kind hands and feet.
3. We speak kindly to each other.
4. We share and take turns.
5. We look after our classroom and toys.
6. We always try our best.
