The Pirates of Redhills School!!

Welcome back after half term me hearties!  During the first two weeks of June our little Cherries have been having a wonderful time being Pirates, dressing up, exploring, hunting for treasure, making a beautiful mermaid collage, a pirates ship, treasure maps, singing songs and thoroughly enjoying themselves.  We've even walked the plank during a special Pirate themed PE session!!!

Welcome back for the Summer term!!

 

We have been investigating everything, well as much as we can, about snails.  Children have enjoyed being snails and exploring different methods of travel, balance and movement.  Observational drawings and collages have been created using 'straight' and 'curvy' lines.  

 

We have also been using a variety of materials to explore our number bonds to 10.

WEEK COMMENCING 23 MARCH 2015

 

This week we have been discussing the Easter Story and the topic of New Life.

The children have been getting creative and designing wonderful Easter bonnets and posters for the whole school competition.

With the help of Mr Rees, the pupils of both Foundation classes have been planting potatoes and shallots within the Foundation Stage Vegetable Garden.

During numeracy our main focus has been on dividing by 2 (sharing/halving) and revisiting symmetry and repetitive pattern.

This week we have been reading the story of The Hungry Caterpillar and learning about life cycles - caterpillar to butterfly, tadpole to frog, egg to chicken.

 

We have been extremely fortunate and were able to visit one of our MTA's brood of hens and collect their eggs.

 

Numeracy has been based upon repetitive pattern and symmetry.

This week in Foundation our topic has been Jack & The Beanstalk.

 

Literacy - We have been using describing words to write some super sentences relating to the story.

Children have been learning the story and retelling the tale in their own words.

 

Phonics - Children have been using their phonic knowledge to find digraphs within words associated to the story - Jack, Harp, Chicken etc.

 

Numeracy - The focus has been 'adding on' and combining together.

Planting magic beans, growing enormous beanstalks and role playing the giant!!

This week Foundation have been continuing with theme of Incy Wincy Spider in the form of non fiction texts.

 

We have also been focusing on digraphs - oo (short as in book), ee, or, ow.

 

Numeracy has been about exploring capacity - full, empty, half full / more, less, same and subtraction.

 

We have also been making observations of animals, looking at the similarities and differences between spiders and frogs.  This linked into our Music - The Green Wide Mouthed Tree Frog.

This week Foundation have been learning to count accurately, to understand the value of 8, finding the total, using language related to addition eg altogether/makes/add and recording pictorially.

 

We have also learnt the rhyme Incy Wincy Spider, children have been sequencing corresponding pictures, reading related text and writing part of the rhyme.

 

Our Letters & Sounds objective was to recognise and read 6 new tricky words from Phase 3 - we, be, me, he, she, was and in addition our Phonic sounds were ai, oo, er.
